Monthly Volunteer Get Togethers

Last Sunday of Each Month, 1-4 pm:  May 26, June 30, July 28, August 25, September 29 and October 27 

Registration is not required. 

The Arc’s monthly Volunteer Get Togethers feature a potluck lunch beginning at 1 pm at the AFM, followed by an educational program and guided hike. You will also hear updates on land acquisitions and other Arc news.  The goal of these Get Togethers is to build relationships between volunteers and to increase the volunteers’ knowledge of the Arc properties and the natural world it protects.  ALL ARC VOLUNTEERS are invited to attend, regardless of type of volunteer tasks they are engaged in, or how much time is spent volunteering each month.

All Get Togethers will be held from 1 pm – approx. 4-pm at the Appalachian Forest Museum, unless otherwise noted. All Get Togethers start with a potluck lunch unless otherwise noted. Dress for the weather.

Sunday May 26  A talk about the Kamelands Trail will be followed by a hike on the Kamelands Trail.

Sunday June 30 Talk on ferns followed by a guided hike of the Round TopTrail.

Sunday  July 28 Talk on pollinators and a hike at Crow Point to see the amazing display of the Ashy Sunflower and the pollinators who love it!

Sunday August 25 Meet at Ft. Hill Education Center for a potluck and talk about the site’s natural and archaeological history with Naturalist John Jaeger. Afterwards, we will take a hike on one of the trails. 

Sunday  September 29 Artist in Sanctuary Gallery Show at the AFM plus guided hikes by noted naturalists. ( No potluck this date)

Sunday October 27 Visit to Serpent Mound. We will do the potluck at the picnic pavilion at the Mound followed by a movie and tour of the museum and  grounds. Please note, there is an $8 per vehicle parking fee at Serpent Mound. Arc Members with current Wilderness Decal may park for free.
